New Charges in Soares’ Steroid Investigation

Albany County District Attorney David Soares tells NEWS 10 there are new charges in his Orlando-based Signature Pharmacy steroid investigation.

Four of the co-defendants now face several counts of conspiracy, and prosecutors have charged a new defendant in the case. Husband and wife pharmacists Stan and Naomi Loomis, pharmacist Ken Loomis, and the Florida pharmacy’s business manager, Kirk Calvert, each face 22 new charges. The indictment, handed up in Albany on Friday, also charges Anthony Palladino, who prosecutors say helped run the pharmacy’s day-to-day operations.

“The high count is called ‘enterprise corruption’, which is sort of like RICO - the federal RICO statute - but it’s New York’s version…that’s a (Class) B felony,” says Albany County Assistant District Attorney Christopher Baynes.

All five of the defendants pled ‘not guilty’ at their court arraignment Wednesday morning. Prosecutors say the new charges came out of testimony from other defendants who have pleaded guilty in the case.
